Wasilla Real Estate & Community
Named after a local Dena'ina chief, Chief Wasilla, the Wasilla community gained international attention during the 2008 United States presidential election when Sarah Palin was chosen to be John McCain's vice-presidential running mate. Sarah Palin had been Wasilla's mayor prior to being elected as Governor of Alaska.
Wasilla has a library, career training and technical colleges, and numerous attractions such as Lake Lucille Park which includes a campground and 80 acres of nature for visitors to explore. Another attraction is historic Wasilla which can be experienced at the Dorothy Page Museum & Historic Town Site.
As well, Wasilla is home to the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center - Mat-Su Valley's premier indoor sports facility. This facility includes a walking/running track, an artificial turf court, a NHL-size ice arena, and much more. In the summer, a fun place to burn off energy is Wonderland Park - a huge outdoor playground.
Other attractions that residents and visitors enjoy include community gardens, Wasilla Lake, Hatcher Pass, Nunley Park, Carter Park, and the Museum of Transportation and Industry.
